WOOD INLAID PELICAN - POST VII

Finishing the top:

Got myself a bit side tracked yesterday. Today is a much nicer day, bit cold, but not to bad.

Back on task, forgot the camera, all I have done has been covered in an earlier posts, using the marking/knife gauge, I trimmed around the edge of the wood inlay on the top, filled all the gaps and uneven areas, with a mixture of sawdust and superglue.

Sanded smooth.

Made sure the surface was flush with a small plane.

Then with the marking gauge, made sure the gap between the side and edge were equal all around.

Using the marking knife/gauge cut the strips of veneer to frame the inlaid pelican.

Using my block of wood with a 1/8" groove routed into it, plane the strips of veneer.

Glue the first piece to the work.

Sometimes old is better then new.

Miter the corners.

Continue around the inlaid picture.

Then using the same procedure do the outside edge (forgot to take pics.)
Tomorrow I'll start on the inside of the box.
