Q. Can you suggest some resources (web, books, etc) for me to start researching this world of marquetry please?

A.The world of marquetry is a very strange and wonderful beast, there are a lot of books on traditional marquetry, but I haven't read one of them, I have spent time surfing the net and found this quite helpful, as I'm one of those so called visual people, I have found a lot of information by simply typing marquetry or wood inlay or just inlay into youtube and just follow these through.

Mainly I have looked at a lot of different methods for doing marquetry/inlay and then, I've over time developed my own methods. I don't know if you have visited my blog  aussiewoodworker.blogspot.com.au, I have in the blog done several projects, documenting the steps I take, and tried to explain why I've done what I did.

If you have a look at the blog, under "Index of projects", go through a couple of these and then you can email me at  holmesp06@gmail.com. Any questions you have, I would be most happy to answer them, or if you wanted to start a project I'd be happy to guide you through step by step.
