FINISHING OLD PROJECTS VI: Marquetry

FINISHING THE MARQUETRY BOX:

Saturday 23/08/2014

With the marquetry complete, all I have to do today is just finish the inside of the box.
If the rain doesn't stop soon it's going to flood.

I feel sorry for the Guy's painting the pool, they come, they pump out the pool, they wash, they acid etch, they wash with sugar soap, They say see you tomorrow, they come back every day and sweep the pool out, clean any bird droppings, say its looking good, all we need is ten days without rain, so the surface can dry properly, after a few days it rains, this has been going on for over twelve months.

New water feature, the neighbors water meter has exploded, so with the rain, its really wet around here. The excitement, never ends.

Have to get back to the woodwork project and get this box finished. Apply glue to the inside of the lid and the back of the marquetry.

Position the marquetry inside the lid.

And securely clamp, applying even pressure, and allow to dry.

Now the dam snake has come out in the pouring rain and it,s trying to catch a bird, must be to cold because it isn't having much luck.

Next cut and fit the veneer to the inside of the box, A lot of time spent waiting for glue to dry.

Heading up under the solar panels, might get a shock it the sun comes out.

Most of the day has been spent waiting for glue to set, and other interruptions i.e. water features and snakes, upsetting the local bird community.
The box is now complete, I will sand and cote with oil, then show the finished result. I can't show it tonight as the box in full of clamps, still waiting for the glue to dry.
Thanks for taking the time to read about my work, I love to hear from others doing marquetry and how they do it.
