PELICAN MARQUETRY BOX NO II Post II

PELICAN MARQUETRY BOX NO II: Post II

Just a short post today, I haven't had much time in the shed over the last few days, but having fun with the Pelican project, it hasn't been all plain sailing.

Starting the Marquetry

With the veneer for the top marquetry taped on both sides, cut out the pattern and glue into position.

Drill a pilot hole, thread the saw blade through the veneer, and in a clockwise direction cut the first piece.

For the black feathers, I am using Red cedar burned with a gas soldering iron to achieve the effect of the feathers.

I then cote the burned veneer with super glue to fix the colour.

For the beak I am using three different colours of Campher laurel, campher is great to use as its easy to work and comes in infinite colours.

Remove the tape from the front of the marquetry.

Using a small chisel, work around the edge of the pattern pressing down so the front is flush.

Looking OK.
